I heard that SeeKateSew was hosting a sew-along and I decided to jump in. She provided a free pattern for an envelope style clutch and walked you through the construction process from start to finish. It didn’t dawn on me that I needed to have my clutch done like yesterday. I like tackling little projects like this since it’s more experience/learning under my belt and I come away with cute items.
I decided to upcycle a couple of items for this project. A good ole faithful curtain remnant and a tunic style shirt.
Pretty easy sew. I still managed to get some crooked seams in there. If I attempt this again, I will definitely need to find a way to make the clutch more stiff. Heavier fabric or interfacing. This particular fabric is a little too flimsy for me even with heavyweight interfacing.
I really like the texture of the stitched flower. Clutch is nice, shiny and elegant looking. Not to mention this project was $Free.99.
Uploading this to the flickr group just in case you want to see what other ladies have done with the pattern.
that looks lovely – maybe if it is a bit floppy for a clutch you could use it as a laptop/tablet/something case? It would surely work well?
Great suggestion. Yeah, it’ll have to house something in it as I probably couldn’t carry it as is. I will definitely use it though. I think it is so cute.
I love the texture and how you placed the flower on the clutch. Of course, the recycling aspect is rollin’ my socks up and down, too. 🙂 I think the idea of a sew along is fun, too. Maybe we should do that for our next project…..
Have a great week!
Beth
HA!!!! Rolling your socks up and down? That is the best! Sew alongs are so fun Beth. I like them because they give me a deadline which is good. I can have all of these great ideas, but be as content as I wanna be with all that goodness. Lol. And it’s fun knowing that other people are working on the same project. You have a great week too Beth!
VERY pretty! I must try this project! 🙂
Thanks Katherine! And yes, I would love to see your spin on a clutch.
It looks lovely! The fussy-cut flower design looks great. If it isn’t stiff enough for a clutch, perhaps you can re-purpose it as a bag in which to keep delicate lingerie or jewellery.
Thanks so much! I appreciate the suggestions too.
That is so pretty! I may be making a dress for an event that we have next month and with the right fabric, this could be the perfect accompaniment. If it’s too flimsy for an actual clutch, you could always reinforce the closure and use it for a makeup case. 😉
Thanks for the suggestion. I think an envelope clutch would be a great accent to a lovely outfit. Let us know is you make one.
Looks pretty! I will have to add this to my tutorials to try list!
Thanks so much for liking my post and my first comment 🙂 Love the upcycling and have to say your kids are so cute!
Ha! You are most welcome. And thanks so much. Upcycling is one of my new faves and the kiddos, well they are pretty cute. Lol.
That is so cute! I love that you upcyled items.
Thank you! It is so fun giving new life to old items.
